WINTER CROZE

You might say we’ve been nesting here at Croze during these winter months.  Wrapped up in reminiscence of the recent harvest and chattering about what is surely the bounty of the next season.

We are thrilled with the 2008 harvest.  The overall crop load was light but the quality was impeccable.  The expected winter rains were almost nonexistent until early February.  The sheer abundance of rain since has us discussing arks, but in all seriousness the farmers are doing heel-clicks.

We have recently moved into the 2007 vintage of Croze Sauvignon Blanc and it is showing fresh and lively.  The 2005 Smith Wooton Cabernet Franc has been a popular item lately and we’ll likely be seeing the next vintage of that soon.  With spring will come the highly anticipated release of our 2008 Croze Cabernet Sauvignon Rose!

In the mean time, we are sending our club members the 2005 Smith Wooton Syrah and 2005 Smith Wooton Cabernet Franc to satiate their palates in search of funky, spicy reds.  Please let us know if you would be interested in joining the club.

2005 SMITH WOOTON SYRAH

The wine opens with aromas of macerated black cherries, clove spice, and a bit of prosciutto.  The fully rounded mouthfeel starts with Indian Mukhwas (candy coated fennel, anise, and sesame seeds) and moves into dense, concentrated blackberries and plum.  The wine invoke images of a sultry northern Rhone wrapped in velvet arm in arm with the brute force of a CA Syrah strapped in new chaps.  One glass is never enough.  Only 297 cases produced.

2005 SMITH WOOTON CABERNET FRANC

2005 SMITH WOOTON Cabernet Franc from Gallagher's Vineyard is unmistakably Cabernet Franc!  Once again the Napa Valley terroir and meticulous vineyard management by grower, Brian Gallagher work their magic to provide our winemaker, Gary Wooton with just the right grapes for this elegant and handsome wine.  Earthy aroma explodes from the glass long before your lips touch the wine.  The first sip fills the mouth with dark, rich gamey flavors reminiscent of a fine Bordeaux.  Production of just 490 cases.

As the Croze fly from the snowy skies of Minnesota to the balmy beaches of Florida, we raise our glasses to you, wherever you may settle your roost this season.
