Winemaker Gary Wooton pulled out all the stops on this showy Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. The sturdy, rich garnet color coats your glass and the aromas that arise are of classic dried currant and supple cedar box. As it opens up we find layers of tart pomegranate juice and a faded memory of fresh milled fir tree. This is a mouth-drenching, tannic wine that craves a piece of meat or time in your cellar. In keeping with the winemaker’s philosophy and style, 2008 CROZE is very drinkable now, but has the balance for a graceful and long lived future.

CONNOISSEURS' GUIDE TO CALIFORNIA WINE: 90 points Here is a gutsy, old fashioned Cabernet Sauvignon that steers clear of confection and, if not a prettified version, it is a wine of real richness and strength. it juxtaposes plenty of extracted fruit with suggestions of tobacco, stony soils, hardwoods and cream and it has the kind of fleshy substance that its sturdy, big-boned construction demands. it is very much gauged for the long haul and it wants to be hidden away in a dark cellar for a good ten years or more.
Grapes for the 2008 CROZE came from De Coninck Vineyard at the south end of the Napa Valley Cabernet growing region. This is a sweet spot for Cabernet Sauvignon producing long-lasting, well structured, elegant wines. The grapes are Organically Grown at DeConinck Vineyards.
The grapes were harvested October 14, 2008 and following a slow fermentation, were pressed on November 5, 2008. The wine is comprised of 100% clone 337, fermented with BM 45 yeast in half ton bins. November 10, 2008, the wine was moved to barrel using 1/3 new, 1/3 once filled, and 1/3 twice filled French Oak barrels from the Nevers forest. The wine was racked twice yearly until bottling in August 28, 2011. Since then it has rested in bottle, allowing the flavors to mature.
Traditionally great with grilled or roasted red meats, mushrooms, and other hearty fare. This wine will certainly pair well with Tuesday nights pizza or Saturdays Filet Mignon.
